RehabWeek 2017: Translation and Clinical Delivery

17th to 20th July 2017

Find out more about Rehab Week here ......

Dear Sir or Madam

Are you interested in pushing the field of Rehabilitation Technologies forward by exchanging your ideas and sharing your experiences with engineers, clinical researchers, clinicians, industry-, and patient representatives as well as politicians and insurers from all around the world? Then it is our great pleasure to invite you to attend the third RehabWeek, which will take place in London, from July 17th to 20th 2017.

We are, for the third time after 2011 in Zürich and 2015 in Valencia, combining four reputable international events in the field of rehabilitation technology for the RehabWeek 2017 with the goal to bring all players in the field to the same place at the same time. The four participating conferences are:

  • International Conference on Rehabilitation Robotics (ICORR)
  • International Neurorehabilitation Symposium (INRS)
  • Annual Meeting of the International Functional Electrical Stimulation Society (IFESS)
  • British Society of Rehabilitation Medicine (BSRM) Meeting

The general theme of the RehabWeek 2017 is “Translation and clinical delivery”. The aim of rehabilitation should be to maximize recovery for real life activities. Hereby, we should encourage restorative practices at every turn resulting to achieve the coordinated use of affected extremities or faculties. Ideally, clinicians and engineers alike desire affordable technology systems that span to clinical and home environment, are easy to use and result in functional gains that carryover to real life. Over the last decade we have witnessed the development of technology playing a pivotal role in measurement, assessment, therapy provision through movement assistance and social aspects. Although a number of very exciting ideas found their way to commercialization, the slow uptake of technology seems to be associated (among other factors) with the need to make technology transparent to the user. Besides the technological push, we now face the challenge of making such technology meaningful to the clinicians, patients and support networks.

The London RehabWeek will target basic science, the translation of technologies across fields and promote clinical delivery. It will have a strong user involvement, inspire the younger generations and galvanise experts to tackle the challenges ahead through collaboration.

We would like to invite you to join us in making the RehabWeek 2017 an inspiring, innovative and successful event.

Kind regards RehabWeek Steering Committee

Dr Rui Loureiro ICORR

Dr Gery Colombo INRS

The BSRM looks forward to welcoming members to this collaborative event which is in addition to the BSRM Annual Meeting in Cambridge in 2017. The increasing contribution of technologies to Rehabilitation Medicine makes Rehab Week 2017 particularly relevant for BSRM members. It presents an excellent opportunity to raise the profile of rehabilitation and to network with colleagues from a variety of backgrounds. Look out for further details of the symposia on both 18th and 19th July that have been developed by the BSRM SIGs.
